答：為了使我們更加曉得其權威性，第四條誡命所附加的遵行理由：
（1） 首先是出自於其中衡平的原則，即上帝讓我們在一周之內有六日作自己的工，但卻保留一日歸祂自己:“六日要勞碌作你一切的工”（出20:9）；
（2） 上帝要求我們把這日特別歸給祂:“第七日是向耶和華你上帝 當守的安息日”（出20:10）；
（3） 而且，上帝以身作則:“六日之內，主造天、地、海和其中的 萬物，第七日便安息”；
（4） 上帝特別祝福此日，不但把這日分別為聖，用於事奉祂，而且指定，當我們守此日為聖的時候，此日便成 為我們蒙福的器皿:“所以耶和華賜福與安息日，定為聖日”（出20:11） 。
