答：對於履行第五條誡命所附加的理由是，“使你的日子在耶和華你上帝所 賜你的地上，得以長久”（出20:12）。這是一個明確的長壽與興盛的應許，所有遵行這一誡命的人，只要使上帝得榮耀，自己得益處，就必長 壽興盛（申5:16；王上 8:25；弗6:2－3）。
